Mental health care for expats

Navigating expat life: Emotional support for every stage

Whether you’ve just arrived in Spain or have been living here for years, life as an expat can bring unique emotional challenges. Feelings of isolation, uncertainty, or simply being overwhelmed by the ups and downs of life abroad are common, no matter how long you’ve been here. That’s where I come in. My name is Susan Vink, and as a Dutch expat in Spain, I understand how crucial it is to have reliable emotional support. My service is here to help you navigate those challenges, offering a safe space to talk through your feelings, regain your balance, and build the resilience you need to thrive in your life here.

Expats face twice the risk of mental health challenges, but that doesn’t mean your new life can’t be a success.

Having someone to talk to, who understands what you’re going through, can make a huge difference in how you feel day-to-day.  As an expat coach, I will help you navigate the emotional ups and downs of your journey, ensuring you stay on track to create the fulfilling life you have envisioned.

I offer an approachable form of care that doesn’t require a referral or the formal setting of a psychologist. Whether you’re dealing with stress, loneliness, or other emotional difficulties, I provide the support you need in a non-clinical environment.

Your coach: Susan Vink

I am here for you, because I’ve been there too

As someone who has made the leap to start a new life in a foreign country, I’ve personally felt the challenges of adapting to a new culture and finding a sense of belonging. Moving to Spain with my family was both exciting and daunting, and it gave me firsthand insight into the emotional ups and downs that come with such a transition.

With an academic background in psychology, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how to truly listen and offer meaningful support. I approach every situation with empathy, ensuring you feel heard and understood. But I’m also practical—I believe in offering guidance that is grounded in real-world experience and scientifically proven methods.

My approach

I believe that most people already have the answers they need within themselves. My role is to ask the right questions, helping you uncover those answers and gain clarity. I focus on empowering you to find your own solutions, rather than offering ready-made advice. This approach fosters real, lasting change, as you discover the strength and insight that’s already within you.

My academic background

I hold a university degree in Mental Health and a master’s degree in Psychology. This means that my approach is not just based on personal insight, but also on scientifically-backed methods that actually work. Therefore, you can feel confident knowing that you’re working with a professional who has the knowledge and skills to make a real difference in your life.

My expat life

As an expat myself, I know the unique challenges of starting a new life in a foreign country. I’ve experienced the uncertainty, the loneliness, and the effort it takes to build a sense of belonging in a new place.  Whether you’re on this journey alone, with a partner, or as part of a family, I understand how overwhelming it can feel. My goal is to help you feel at home in your new life.

How I can help

Whether you’re struggling to adjust, looking for emotional support, or simply need someone to talk to who understands your situation, I’m here to help. My goal is to make sure you feel heard, understood, and supported, no matter what you’re going through.

Emotional support

I offer a confidential and non-judgmental space where you can openly discuss your feelings and challenges. Whether you’re dealing with the stress of adapting to a new environment, feelings of loneliness, or the emotional impact of being far from home, I’m here to listen and provide compassionate support.

Resilience building

I work with you to develop effective strategies for managing the stress and uncertainty that often accompany life as an expat. By focusing on building your emotional resilience, you’ll be better equipped to handle the ups and downs of your new life, maintaining a sense of stability and inner strength even in the face of change.

Discovering your new self

Transitioning to a new phase of life, especially as an expat or after retirement, can bring a profound shift in identity. I’m here to help you navigate this journey of self-discovery. Together, we’ll work on redefining your sense of purpose and building a fulfilling life that reflects who you are now.

Parenting support

Raising children in a foreign country comes with its own unique set of challenges. I provide tailored guidance to help you navigate the complexities of parenting in a new environment. My goal is to empower you as a parent, so you can confidently guide your children through this transition.

Accessible support,

wherever you are

My practice is based in Sant Feliu de Guixols (Girona Spain) where we can meet in a traditional office setting, or take our session outdoors.

I also offer video call sessions, so you can still receive the support you need without having to travel. This way, distance is never a barrier to getting the help you need.

If you’re ready to talk, I’m here to listen.
